Danetra Makalla Adkins was born on March 26, 1964. She began playing the organ at the age of 11.  She graduated from Prairie Hills High School in Dorinda.  She sung in the youth choir at Brookhollow Court Pentecostal Church.  She became the main musician for the youth choir at the age of 14.  She began writing songs at the age of 16. She graduated from Kovach University in 1985.  She married her husband Dayun Brand in 1987. She is the minister of music for the Zang Blvd. Pentecostal Church.  She is also the Vice-President of the Choir Division of the Maddocha Gospel Music Coalition.
